I got really great feedback the last time I did a “things I’m loving” in terms of beauty products so I figured it was time for another one. These are my latest beauty faves!
You may notice the mascara is familiar looking…it’s the same brand I posted about last time except it’s BLUE! Yes! L’Oréal came out with their same fabulous L’Oréal Voluminous Original mascara formula in a blue hue. I get too many complements when I wear it it’s almost embarrassing (especially because I forget I’m wearing blue mascara!) oh, and you can buy it at Walmart for under $7! It’s a no brainer and way fun for spring/summer. This is also a nod to the first makeup I ever wore, which was purple mascara 🙂
The next thing I’m loving is my IT Your Skin But Better CC+ Full Coverage Foundation. I have acne prone skin that gets oily before the day is over. This stuff really does make it look like it’s your skin BUT BETTER! And it helps keep my skin from looking like a shiny mess by the day’s end. It has a nice light lemony scent that is the farthest thing from a makeup smell, it’s quite nice! I set it with my Bare Minerals Mineral Veil and it’s awesome. You can get this at Ulta for around $38 (a little goes a long way).
The final product is this stunning gold, shimmery, perfection of a color nail polish. More specifically it’s Sally Hansen Miracle Gel nail polish in terra coppa. My friend introduced me to it and said she loved the formula so I gave it a try. I honestly thought I had tried all the nail polishes out there but this one surpasses them all. This stuff is self-leveling so you have a smooth finish on your nail bed and it LASTS SO LONG considering it’s not an actual gel polish. You don’t have to cure this under an LED light and it removes with normal nail polish remover. Totally try it, you won’t be disappointed. It easily lasts a week without chipping and that’s super long in my opinion. I want all. The. Colors. And a bottle will cost your around $8. Not too shabby.
If you know me, you know I love a good manicure but I am not one to shell out the money to go get it done. That’s especially true when you can give yourself a professional looking mani right at home with nail colors you most likely already have. Save your money, and have people commenting on your cute digits with this easy design!
Here’s what you need:
beige/tan or neutral base color
white nail polish
medium and dark blue nail polishes
your favorite topcoat
a fine tipped paint brush
Here’s how to create the look:
paint your beige base coat and let dry
take a bobby pin and bend it apart
dip it into the white nail polish and dot it on your nail (aim for the center base of each nail); let it dry.
take the end of your paint brush handle and dip it into your medium blue color. Test this on a piece of paper first, making sure that this dot of blue color is smaller than the white dot you put on your nail. (you want to see the edges of the white peeking out under the blue)
Dot the medium blue color on every white dot.
Then take the actual fine tipped paint brush and dip it in your darkest blue; dot each nail again to complete the “eye.”
Once completely dry, put your top coat on and you’re done!
Trust me, people will think you got this done at a nail salon!
I have a really fun pedicure for you guys that is so super easy! All you need to do is look through your stash of nailpolish and pick two colors you think you go well together! That’s it!
I saw this two-tone pedicure a lot when we were traveling around Italy and Paris over the summer and I knew I wanted to replicate it and share it with you once we got home!
No need to be a pro at painting detailed nail designs! If you can paint your nails, you can do this! And the other great thing, is you can do this as a manicure with more muted or neutral colors (if you need your nails to be subdued and more “work appropriate!”)
I picked orange and a corally pink creme polish (creme=no shimmer), but I also saw black and white combos that were really chic!
Here’s what you need:
•2 nailpolish colors that you think go well together
•your favorite clear top coat
Here’s how to do it (it’s stupid easy!):
•paint your big toenail one color of choice, and the rest of your toenails in the other color!
Done. See?! EASY!!
Pamper your piggies while it’s still summer time and sandal season!!
I know it’s only June 23, but I have realized that in the blogging world you need to be ahead of the game when writing about things that people might want to replicate by a certain time. Case in point – this simple little DIY Patriotic Mani/Pedi. If I were to post this on 4th of July, who’s gonna stop what they’re doing and paint their nails? Not moi! I got fireworks to watch!
So for those of you that know me well, you know I love having nail polish on my nails at all times, and if I don’t it’s a rare occasion. I never spend the money on getting my nails done because, hello, $$ I don’t have, which means I get creative from time to time making mine fancy. I thought a great regular posting here at Perfect & Flawed would be a “Monthly Manicure” post. My plan is to post it every third Thursday. So if you’re a nail fanatic like me, you can have that to look forward to.
Anyways, I LOVE the 4th of July. It’s probably my favorite holiday. I’m not really sure why, but I think it has to do with being outdoors with family and friends, eating good food, and being nostalgic. There’s just an overall sense of happiness on this holiday in my opinion. And when I watch the fireworks go off at night I always get overwhelmed with emotion and get a little teary-eyed thinking about how good we have it here in the U.S. We have freedom and we have rights, safety, and the ability to do what we choose. I am so thankful for the country we live in, even with all its flaws (which, lately, there seems to be many).
Now, on to the fun part! I was inspired by Pinterest for this nail DIY – if you haven’t followed my Pinterest board, you need to!
Here’s what you need:
red nail polish
blue nail polish
white nail polish with a skinny detail brush (or use normal white polish and a separate skinny brush for detail work)
clear top coat
an orange stick or something to push your cuticles back
P.S. – I got my bottle of white polish at the dollar store! You can find a lot of those detail bottles at the dollar store I have found 🙂
Paint all nails except ring fingers red
Paint ring fingers blue
Do 2 coats on everything and wait to dry
Take your white nail polish and draw/paint a star on your ring fingers
Wait for it to dry completely (to avoid dragging the color) and apply top coat
Paint big toes blue
Paint the rest of your toes red
Do 2 coats of everything and wait to dry
Take the white nail polish and draw/paint three little stars (or however many you have room for on your big toe!)
Paint two THIN diagonal stripes on all the red toenails
Wait to dry
Add top coat to everything
Remember you can always remove the nail polish if you mess up. I find that if I’m not striving for perfection, it actually comes out a lot better than I planned!
